I recently was asked the question “so do you just hate American men then?”

This came from an acquaintance who had been introduced to my blog. I was shocked at the tone she had picked up on and consequently felt the need to write this post to diminish any (tongue in cheek) racist accusations.
I need to clarify that my complaints are about New Yorkers, not Americans. It doesn’t matter where in the world the man comes from, in my experience it takes about three months to adjust to the way things are in Manhattan and become a true NYC pig.
When a colleague from the London office was transferred to New York shortly after I left, I gave him the heads up as to what he could expect. Given he is a guy in a stable long-term relationship, it was more as a warning as to what he could expect in terms of being approached by women and so on.
He at the time scoffed at me. After just two weeks though, I had the email. One line:
“Women in New York are crazy.”
After some probing it transpired that poor old matey had been chased around more Manhattan bars than he could shake a stick at, he was fed up with the attention!
Now, this guy is definitely an exception. Through new arrivals I met at Big Apple Brits shindigs and just from my own experiences of interacting with the fantastic melting pot society in Manhattan I saw if happen time and time again.
Man arrives in New York. Man discovers women are eager and not in short supply. Man likes. Man discovers women accept being one of several dates. Man behaves accordingly.
